BIG numbers went under the hammer at the Griffith market on Friday with vendors selling 19,100 sheep and lambs.

According to Meta and Livestock Australia’s National Livestock Reporting Service there were 5250 head of new season lambs penned, with lighter plainer lambs well supplied.
Some of the usual buyers were absent, with those that attended competing in a cheaper market. Light new season lambs were well supplied making from $94 to $145/head. Trade weights sold from $146 to $190/head.
Heavy lambs made from $196 to $206/head, with carcase prices averaging from 758c to 847c/kg cwt. Old trade weight lambs sold from $140 to $186/head.
Heavy weights received from $190 to $200, with extra heavies reaching $240/head.
Mutton numbers made up the majority of the offering and quality was very mixed, with well finished and plainer sheep penned. Prices decreased $6 to $10, with Merino ewes making from $96 to $165/head. Crossbred ewes sold from $100 to $170 and Dorper ewes made from $86 to $135/head.
