The Routley family’s Almondvale Poll And White Suffolk sheep studs at Urana conducted its 31st Poll and 15th White Suffolk sale last Friday in style, with a large crowd attending and keen bidding pushing a White Suffolk to top the sale at $4500, while a Poll ram reached a top of $2500.

A total of 140 rams were offered and sale averages were $1488 for the 52 poll rams sold of the 60 offered, and an average of $1161 for the 67 of the 80 White Suffolks that sold, with many return clients plus new buyers in attendance.
Bidding was determined throughout the sale, with buyers commenting, that the wool on the Almondvale poll rams was both very stylish and wearing extremely well.
Paul Routley said it was a great testament to their breeding program, after the very tough season everyone has been through, the rams presented very well.
The White Suffolk ram topped the sale at $4500 and was purchased by new buyer Richard Davies, Lone Pine White Suffolks, Goulburn.
Mr Davies said he was an all over perfectly formed ram with great length.
While in the poll section the sale topper went to return client Russell and Nolene Henderson, Deniliquin, for $2500.
His top choice measured 21.4-microns with a body weight of 91 kilograms, and was described as “a well balanced poll ram with 122 greasy wool percentage.”
Other significant poll buyers included G and S Sweeny, Bimbi, who purchased six rams and averaged $1616.
While Laurie Beer, Deniliquin, White Ag PTY LTD, Yarrawonga and Burrenderry Pastoral company, Gundagai all purchased five rams to average $1560, $1080 and $1380 respectively.
In the White Suffolk shed Australian Food and Agriculture, Deniliquin, put together a nice draft of 23 rams to average $1000.
Staying local, EC and TL Fealy, Urana purchased eight rams to average $1113.
The sale was conducted by Landmark with Peter Cabot and Tim Woodham as auctioneers.
