According to Meat and Livestock Australia’s National Livestock Reporting Service there was 6300 new season lambs penned.
Light new-season lambs lifted $10 to sell from $143 to $151/head. Trade weights were $12 dearer with prices ranging from $154 to $198/head. Heavy and extra heavy weight lambs lifted $15 to $18/head with quality contributing to the rise.
Heavy lambs sold from $193 to $213 and extra heavies received from $210 to $232/head. Carcase prices averaged 790c to 820c/kg. Old lambs followed a similar trend with trade weight selling from $150 to $186/head. Heavy weights received from $188 to $200 with extra heavy weights selling from $200 to $263/head. Mutton numbers remained steady and quality continues to be very mixed. Prices were strong with Merino ewes selling from $100 to $170/head. Crossbreds received from $108 to $174.
