A LARGE hay bale fire has caused about $200,000 worth of damage at a Holbrook farming property.

Firefighters were called to the Wagga Road farm about 10pm on Tuesday.
About 800 large square hay bales had caught alight and damaged a shed.
Rural Fire Service Superintendent Patrick Westwood said the firefighters managed to prevent the fire spreading to surrounding paddocks.
They stayed on scene overnight and into Wednesday.
Superintendent Westwood said all of the bales were destroyed.
“It only takes one small part of a bale to go up and you can lose the lot,” he said.
“Having them in smaller lots can provide a bit of insurance if one does go up.
“Unfortunately the damage was in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“The land owners did the right thing by checking the bales regularly.
“This was just very unfortunate – a small part of one of the bales caused it to go up.”
Superintendent Westwood also reminded farmers to take care while working on the land as the weather heats up.
