Each year GrainGrowers holds a photo competition for grain farmers to share images of the industry.

And artistic shot by Kelly Holland placed second overall.

GrainGrowers' chief executive officer David McKeon said the competition highlights the great effort Australian grain farmers do to produce grain.

“The judges had a tough decision with the high quality of top photos taken by grain farmers across Australia and representing all aspects of grain farming and the cropping season,” said Mr McKeon.

The first-place winner was Kelly Kirkland of Balaklava, South Australia.

Kelly won $1000 for her winning shot Milky Way Scepter Wheat.

The image in second place, taken at Young, and titled Luck Shot, earned $500. 

This shot was from drone footage she had taken in the 2016 season. The paddock name is ‘Kilburnie 5’ is situated at Thuddung.

Third-place was awarded to Philip Down of Speed, Victoria. He won $250 for his shot titled Mia checking the wheat. 

For the first time, GrainGrowers introduced a people’s choice award with a prize of $50 for the photographer who has taken the most popular shot.

The winner was Matt Rhode of Netherby, Victoria. Matt’s shot Brothers enjoying the chickpeas received the most votes.

The photo was taken at Lorquon, in the northern Wimmera.

Mr Rhode farms with his wife, parents, and heir two boys  Luka, 2, and Nelson, 4. He said the photo was taken in a tough season this year in October spring time. The boys feature in a crop of gen090 chickpeas.

The winning images will help GrainGrowers to celebrate the successes achieved in the industry.

The images will appear on the 2019 GrainGrowers calendar.
