Montana, a student at Yanco Agricultural High School, has had a successful year competing in rodeos and earned the top award at the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association junior finals. 

Growing up on a mixed farming property at Wallendbeen provides the perfect backdrop for an interest in team roping, breakaway roping and barrel racing. And for the Wilkinsons rodeo is a family sport. 

Montana often pairs up and competes together with her father Michael in the team roping.

And despite her many accomplishments she remains grounded and humble. 

She said the win at the national finals was unexpected. 

“It was my first national finals and I was actually packing up the truck to get ready to leave (head home to Wallendbeen),” she said.

“But one of the officials called me and said I was needed in the arena,” she said.

“That’s when I was told I won the title … it feels pretty awesome to have won because it is tough competition,” she said.

Montana competed in the juvenile under 18 barrel race and under 18 junior breakaway.
