Doug and Michelle Brunskill of “Brunslea”, Forest Hill near Wagga used the new Organic Worm Hit fertiliser pellets last year and were very pleased with the results they got considering the drought.
They sowed 40kg/Ha of Worm Hit fertiliser (costing $37/Ha) with Moby Barley on 87 hectares which they grazed through last winter and spring three to four times.
“We were particularly impressed with the barley’s large root mass and growth even after grazing it three or four times last winter," Mr Brunskill said.
“We direct drilled the Barley and Worm Hit dry in April into a very hard dry clay based soil type at Brunslea which certainly wasn’t ideal but the root mass and deep root development, plant growth and moisture still in the soil last year during the drought was awesome."
The Brunskills also used the Worm Hit Fertilizer extensively with all the Moby Barely direct drilled more than 350 hectares on their other property “Broughton Brook” between Oura and Wantabadgery where they witnessed slightly better results despite the same drought conditions.
“After grazing it heavily through the drought we still managed to cut more than 300 big square bales of silage off some paddocks which was pretty amazing. We were pleased with the overall result and performance of the Worm Hit in a very tough season and have already ordered another load to sow again this autumn with the Moby Barley,” Mr Brunskill said.
