There were captions like "Armageddon" and the "whites on my (clothes) line are now red" on Facebook and Instagram. And if all of the forecast weather information was to be a guide the prospect of more dry weather was on most people's minds too. 

However, despite the dire look of the storm, which created red skies and swept through the Riverina, some places did get handy rain. Don Kirkpatrick of "Maxwell Park", Mangoplah measured 7mm at his place but those closer to the township of Mangoplah received as much as 25mm on Tuesday and Wednesday. 

He said the amounts which fell varied a lot. 

Where the rain fell according to the Bureau of Meteorology: 

He said in some locations "it literally rained cats and dogs" for a short period of time.

"It was typical summer weather, you are either under it or not," he said.

Mr Kirkpatrick said the rain would mostly help to settle the dust and it would be beneficial in refreshing pastures. He said everyone was getting really sick of the dust. 

And after the run of dry weather he said nobody was going to knock back the small amount of rain.

"It is Australia you don't knock back rain."

On a more serious note Mr Kirkpatrick said landholders would certainly be looking to the skies for follow up rain to help secure stock water.

He said a lot of dams were empty and the state of these, and availability of water for livestock, would be an even bigger issue by the end of April.
