Will a penalty be imposed for the charges of enter enclosed lands, interfere with conduct of business and hinder police? And if so how harsh?
While police did all they could during the Dominion anniversary action, when animal activists targeted a number of rural businesses on Monday, the outcome will not be fully known until due process occurs in the courts. It was no secret that activists were planning the action. The meeting sites, at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Hobart were all public on Facebook.
The disappointing issue and the failure on the part of these activists is the fact a lot of the action was not 'peaceful' or it appears 'lawful.'
However, the disappointing issue and the failure on the part of these activists is the fact a lot of the action was not 'peaceful' or it appears 'lawful.'
One of the animal activist forums had a post by a protester stating "I can't afford to be arrested."
Unfortunately even those who were involved in the action were mislead about the nature of the action and any possible fallout. Yes have your views. Feel free to protest. We are fortunate to live in a democratic country.
These activists are free to shun the agricultural industry and turn their back on animal products. They can choose to wear vegan clothing and eat plant-based food. And that's the beauty of Australia. We are accepting of people, their culture and their opinions.
But a clumsy attempt to shut down agriculture, as we know it, in Australia has only hurt the cause. Monday's efforts have united rural and regional Australia.
