When the days are short, the frosts are heavy, and the fogs are thick and plentiful - it means that the annual ALPA (Australian Livestock and Property Agents) auctioneer's school in Wagga is almost upon us.

This year's ALPA Auctioneer's school will be held on the 9th and 10th July at the Wagga Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre. Budding livestock agents will be put through their paces selling sheep and cattle by well-respected and experienced livestock agents who take the time out of their own businesses to mentor the agents in attendance.
The agency industry is very fortunate to have people who genuinely care and want to give back to newcomers.
A livestock agents toolbox is wide and varied and being able to gather knowledge and skills from different sources is extremely valuable.
While the main focus of our school is to obtain skills to become a successful auctioneer, we also touch on good agency practice, WH&S and animal welfare but understanding markets is one of the key skills to master.
We are very pleased to have Brendan Wade from Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) attend our school. Brendan's current role with MLA takes him across the country as their Market Officers Manager which allows Brendan to have his finger on the pulse of domestic markets and international trends.
Brendan is no stranger to the agency industry having worked as an agent in Queensland for his entire career as well as being a past president of ALPA.
Geoff Casburn from NSW Department of Primary Industries will also feature in our training. Geoff has been instrumental in the development and refinement of a drought feeding calculator app which helps simplify feeding decisions.
We certainly have two jam packed days and while we are grateful to our trainers and presenters, we can't hold schools unless people attend.
Thank you to every ALPA member who signs up their staff members to attend our schools - we are very fortunate to have the support of our members.
Finally, ALPA would like to thank the Wagga Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre for their continued support to host the ALPA midyear southern school.
