A homeless man is fighting for life after he was hit by a reversing garbage truck while lying in a Melbourne laneway.
The 30-year-old man was in the central Degraves Street laneway when hit by the reversing truck at about 5.15am on Wednesday, police said.
"It is believed the victim was with another person in the laneway prior to lying down on the road," Senior Constable Alistair Parsons said on Wednesday.
The man was taken to The Alfred Hospital with head injuries and is in a critical condition.
The male truck driver and his passenger stopped to help.
Witnesses and anyone who spoke to man before the accident are urged to contact police.
