Industry leaders, retail relevance, commercial focus are terms you will hear associated with Kentish Downs, and after 60 years in the Terminal Sire Business its not hard to see why.
This year's offering of 200 rams shows the focus on "early maturing, and easy doing" livestock, and it is no surprise this has been achieved by stud principals Rob and Jody Martin's attention to detail.
"A focus on our clients needs has always been a driving influence behind our breeding program, and with the stud being a clear leader in the adoption of new technology throughout history, it's no surprise our clients lambs are highly sought after by domestic and export processors, with others regularly topping the markets," Rob said.
In 2016 Kentish Downs boasted 85% of their rams above breed average for fat, allowing producers to fatten and finish lambs in tough seasons. The 2019 rams have exceeded all expectations with 100% of rams offered above all terminal Sires for either growth, fat and muscle but in most cases all three.
"We believe in the quality of the sheep that we breed, but more importantly we strive to breed sheep that are easy to manage, functional and efficient and give the best 'bang for buck' for our clients," Rob said.
The annual on-property ram sale will be held on Wednesday September 25 at 1pm. All rams presented will be in paddock condition.
