Next week when around 60,000 people visit the Henty Machinery Field Days (HMFD) site there will be an army of volunteers to keep the logistics running smoothly.

More than 25 groups have been tasked with the service-providing jobs on the site. These volunteers will help to earn funds for local parents and citizens groups, football clubs and churches. According to HMFD chief executive officer Belinda Anderson, this group of more than 500 people from throughout the region help to make the event successful each year.

The Brocklesby Parents and Citizens group will help to set up and layout the country lifestyle site. Members of the Mangoplah and Culcairn footy clubs will be on hand to help with the car-parking.

Osborne footy club has been tasked with handling the rubbish and the Yerong Creek Community Club will be kept busy cleaning toilets. Other tasks on site include waiting on tables in the guest areas, parcel pick up and providing food for the hungry patrons.

Mrs Anderson said these groups did a good job and many had been returning to the event year after year.

"It is important for them to hold onto those jobs, naturally they want to do well, these clubs rely on the funds they earn at this time to ease the burden throughout the year," she said. This week large air seeders could be seen travelling along the Olympic Highway destined for the Henty site.

Mrs Anderson confirmed there were exhibitors starting to arrive and she said despite the dry times people were cautiously optimistic. "We certainly feel for those who are doing it hard, and we have heard stories of stock being turned onto crops which have not advanced enough to bale," she said.

Gates open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week.
