Older lambs, weighing an estimated 34 kilograms dressed, returned a whopping $300.20 for vendor Kerry Cummins of "Meadowvale", Uranquinty when they were knocked down by Wagga agency RH Blake and Co.
Meanwhile, earlier in the sale Landmark offered some exceptional new-season lambs and vendor Ken Burkinshaw of "Amaroo", Collingullie sold 164 second-cross Poll Dorset lambs, estimated to weigh 30 kilograms dressed, for $267.20.
Adrian and Wendy Lindner of "Lindoris" at The Gap also had success with new-season lambs which made $249.20.
Big numbers of sheep and lambs went under the hammer on Thursday, and buyers and livestock agents said the offering was of good quality considering the dry conditions.
A total of 50,570 were sold.
NATIONAL LIVESTOCK REPORTING SERVICE MARKET REPORT:
Vendors sold 49,000 sheep and lambs at the Wagga market on Thursday.
Numbers increased and quality was excellent over the 23,000 new season lambs. Old lambs varied in quality greatly and so did price. The usual buyers attended along with restockers, stock agents and feedlots all seeking lambs.
Trade lambs sold up to $195/head. The limited supply of trade lambs at other selling centres contributed to the strong sale.
Prices were unchanged to $1 dearer, making from $150 to $216/head, to average 830c/kg cwt. Heavy young lambs sold to lower demand at times throughout the sale.
The bulk of the lambs over 26kg sold from $217 to $273/head, averaging 826c/kg cwt. Old trade lambs made from $144 to $190, with the heavy portion selling from $180 to $300/head.
The feature of sale was the mutton market where prices improved from $28 to $35/head for the heavy portion.
A northern processor dominated over all categories, with the exception of the lighter weights. Heavy sheep made from $168 to $236 to average 653c/kg cwt, while trade sheep sold from $140 to $175/head.
