A strong crowd of local buyers flocked to the Harper family's 44th annual Cadell Border Leicester Stud Sale held at Ariah Park last Friday.

The Harper family offered 18 of 24 stud rams topping at $3500 and averaged $2206.
They catalogued 140 flock rams but decided to offer 120 on the day. Of those, 100 sold to a top of $1700 and averaged $1037.
The Cadell 332-18 sale topper, sired by Cadell Trohan 9th from Cadell 257-15, had a Australian sheep breeding values (ASBVs) of 3.43 for weaning weight (WWT), a yearling weight (YWT) of 6.50 and a Border $ Index of 119.11.
Previously purchasing rams from the Cadell stud, Ryan and Greg Koschitzke, Brocklesby, were chasing a ram with carcase dimension, width on top and depth of carcase to him.
"He was the standout sheep in the sale," they said.
"We have previously bought a ram of this bloodline that has done well."
The second top price stud ram reached $2500 on four occasions with Cadell 417-18 and Cadell 67-18 both purchased by Elerada Parstoral, Corowa.
While Cadell 818-18 a twin son of Cadell Superior 6th also reached second top money and was purchased by JE and A Schultz, Jindera.
Their top selection had ASVBs of 109.52 for border $ index and a yearling weight of 5.15 kilograms.
RJ and DR Male, Barellan, also taking home a ram of the second top money with Cadell 684-18 a triplet son sired by Cadell Bonn 10th.
Their top price ram selected had ASBVs of 3.51 for WWT, 5.15 for YWT, maternal weaning weight of 1.58 and Border $ index of 118.25.
Leading the volume buying was Davis Ag, Lake Cargelligo, who put together a draft of 17 flock rams averaging $1000.
While return buyers AM and CG Gadsby, Binnowee, Euchraneina, loaded a total of 11 rams which included six stud rams paying a top of $2200 for Cadell 340-18 to average $2033 and five flock rams to fulfill their requirements to average $1200 with and overall sale average of $1655.
Frying Pan Creek Pastoral, Weeroona, Narrandera, secured 10 flock rams to average $900.
Purchasing nine flock rams, McAlister Bros, Tarcutta, paid an average of $1089 for their selection while Brobinyah Pastoral Company, Junee secured eight rams to average $1000.
Two buyers purchased six rams to fulfill their requirements with Tenandra Park Pastoral Company, Mossvale and JJ Dresser and Co, Woodstock averaging $1050 and $1000 respectively.
Stud principal, Barry Harper said we were overall very pleased with the result considering the terrible farming conditions in many parts of NSW.
The sale was conducted by agents in conjunction Elders and Landmark of Wagga with Joe Wilks and Peter Cabot the auctioneers.
