Now the challenge is on to Pink Up Your Town again this year.

It is the major annual fundraiser for the foundation, run during October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Now in its third year, over 70 towns are taking part throughout October.

So where do funds raised from Pink Up Your Town go?

All money goes directly to the McGrath Foundation to help provide funding for the organisation's nurses in communities across Australia.

Each McGrath Breast Care Nurse is supported for a minimum of three years.

Fiona Cooper is located at Cooma Community Health Centre and works to help those dealing with the disease.

Her support is available for free and without a referral - it's as simple as reaching out to Ms Cooper directly.

Ms Cooper's role is dedicated to making a difference to the lives of those living with a cancer diagnosis.

She provides free physical and psycho-social support - from the time of diagnosis and throughout treatment.

This includes scheduling and attending specialist appointments, answering questions and decoding medical jargon, and ensuring patients are empowered to make decisions about their treatment.

The McGrath Foundation already employs 132 breast care nurses across Australia, including in regional and remote areas where expert help may be harder to find.

More than 100 additional nurses are needed to meet the increasing rate of breast cancer diagnosis in Australia.

So how can the local community get involved with Pink Up Your Town?

This month, add a splash of colour to your wardrobe. It might be as simple as wearing a pink ribbon or necklace, or you could go all out with an entirely pink outfit.
