According to Meat and Livestock Australia's National Livestock Reporting Service numbers increased by more then 2000 cattle for a significantly large yarding with all weights and grades on offer.
There was a better offering of prime cattle this week with the market finding a floor, a little stronger than last week. All regular processors were in attendance with northern processors keen to participate.
Regardless of the large supply offered, the market was stronger over most categories, particularly in the cow run where a southern processor dominated the market on the heavier lines. The trade quality lifted in the steer portion and jumped 2c/kg across the well finished lines.
Prime yearling steers sold from 282c to 324c/kg. The heifers were again very well finished for the top lines making from 270c to 312c/kg. The feedlot buyers were keen to participate in a slightly easier market across the better lines. Feeder steers eased 5c on the heavier lines, selling from 296c to 323c/kg, with the lighter 2 score yearlings making from 259c to 304c/kg.
The heifer portion sold in a stronger market with the lighter 2 score heifers lifting 3c, making from 265c to 283c and the heavier lines reaching 291c/kg. Restockers stepped in on the lighter weight yearlings spending up to 328c for steers and the bulk of the heifers made from 240c to 271c/kg.
Grown steer and bullocks were in good supply, however, prices for the steer portion eased 4c, selling from 302c to 329c/kg.
There was stronger competition on the bullock runs with prices gaining 10c, making from 300 to 332c/kg. Additional quality was available across the grown heifer portion also with the heavier types, gaining 2c, making from 271c to 306c/kg. Heavy 3 and 4 score beef cows were well supplied, selling from 244c to 277c in a stronger market, lifting 9c to 12c/kg.
The middle run of D2 cows also gained some momentum making from 229 to 247c, lifting up to 6c/kg. There was a mixed yarding of bulls selling to the usual buying group. Bulls with shape reached 320c/kg.
