Katie Henderson is located about 15km away from the Dunns Road fire and she has opened her gates to help out landholders who have displaced pets.

Ms Henderson said she didn't know what to expect when she put the offer on social media last weekend and after around 500 or so shares the 'accommodation' for working dogs is now full but there was room for other animals if needed.

Horses from Tumbarumba and Tarcutta have taken up refuge in the cattle yards and there are mares and foals along with a Brumby.

"Yesterday we had a goat called Madonna and a pet sheep called Minty turn up in the back of a Subaru station wagon and they had a collar and lead on," she said.

Four kelpies, all from the same family, have taken up residence in the elevated dog pens and there are two cats in the bathroom.

"I am here all of the time so I can look after the animals while people try and move on, or source funding after being burnt out," she said.

"People can go and do what they need to and I will look after the animals."

Meanwhile, there have been reports of farmers shooting stock and social media posts have called for bullets for the Batlow area and to the south at the Green Valley fire.

On Sunday early reports from the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and Riverina Local Land Services indicated there were around 1400 dead livestock in the Riverina but that number was anticipated to grow once regions were safer to access and more assessments could be made.

Some people used social media to request ammunition or bullets so they could put animals down that were injured.
