Buying stud stock is certainly not a rare occurrence, however, it's a skill that requires a good eye and attention to detail in the stud catalogue.

So giving young people in the beef industry an opportunity to participate in a mock auction makes great commercial sense.

This was just one of the activities two Angus Australia interns from Wagga oversaw in Toowoomba recently.

Jaimee McQuellin and Emily Lavis are completing internships with the Graham Centre and Angus Australia and the trip to the Angus Youth Roundup in Queensland was one facet of the experience.

"We helped the committee to run the event for the kids and we got to hear the talks and seminars ... I learned a lot," Miss McQuellin said. She said there were some key educational areas in regards to meat judging which were valuable.

"The mock auction the kids did was informative and good to watch," she said.
