The Rodhams are no strangers to topping the market and buyers regularly seek out their extra-heavy lambs.
NATIONAL LIVESTOCK REPORTING SERVICE MARKET REPORT: Vendors sold 44,000 sheep and lambs at the Wagga market.
Numbers lifted on the back of last week's much dearer market.
Quality was outstanding across trade and heavy lamb categories. Generally prices for trade types firmed for the better presented types.
Heavy shorn lambs over 30/kg cwt made up a large portion of the extra heavy lambs and buyers, including a northern processor dominated the market paying up to $308/head.
Lighter weight young lambs were again well supported by restockers, lot feeders and processors. Trade lambs throughout experienced dearer price trends due in part to the limited supply. The best of the trade lambs, 21 to 22kg were $6/head dearer to average 845c/kg cwt. Light weight lambs to the processors made from $95 to $152/head. Lambs back to the paddock sold from $117 to $177/head. There was a full field of buyers at the rail and all companies were keen to buy lambs weighing above 30kg cwt. Heavy and extra heavy lambs sold to solid stronger competition, which meant prices were pushed $6 to $13/head higher.
The bulk of the extra heavy lambs sold at $222 to $308/head, averaging from 764c to 834c/kg cwt.. It was a mixed quality yarding of mutton. Competition from buyers was solid with all processors attending.
