The NSW Stud Merino Breeders Association along with Australian Wool Innovation and BRALCA ran the training day recently at Jerilderie in the Riverina which followed on from an earlier event at Dubbo.
A total of 20 schools attended Jerilderie with students learning about the sheep and wool industry.
The students were able to participate in a series of workshops which helped to expand their knowledge of estimated breeding values (EBVS) and wool and meat judging.
Each school received seven Merino wethers. These wethers are scheduled to be shown at Deniliquin Show where they will be judged for both meat and wool.
Wagga Christian College, senior agriculture teacher, Belinda Everingham said she and the students were excited by the opportunity to participate.
"Hands on teaching where the responsibility for caring for the animals is up to the students cannot be equaled," she said.
"We are thankful to be able to be part of this excellent opportunity to meet with like-minded students from other schools and hear from young professional breeders," she said.
"Students will no doubt have their horizons broadened as they hear key stud breeders share their knowledge of the industry."
