However, on Thursday the enthusiastic bidding on some lines of charity lambs was heartening to say the least.
Lambs, being offered to support the Mansell family made $350 with buyers keen to show plenty of generosity.
H Francis and Co organised the auction and company principal, Tim Francis said it was great to see people aiding in what is a good cause.
Jayden Mansell was injured in a farming accident in April and his mum Karen works for H Francis and Co.
Mrs Mansell is a regular face at the Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre for both the sheep and cattle sales.
"(The auction) was unreal ... we had around 30 lambs and a few hoggets donated," Mr Francis said.
"(Mansells) are a well-known family and it is good to see people supporting this," he said.
Mr Francis said further charity auctions would continue and a go fund me page had been established as well.
He encouraged people to visit the H Francis and Co Facebook page to find further details.
