There was an excellent selection of trade cattle which were keenly sought by several domestic processors. Secondary cattle were in reasonable supply, while heavy cattle supplies were limited. Not all the regular buyers were in attendance owing to the tighter border restrictions.
Only a few buyers in the feedlot buying group made purchases, while restockers were keen to secure stock, pushing prices significantly higher. Not all processors operated in the export run.
Heavy steers and bullocks sold to strong competition from a domestic buyer and southern processors In the trade market steers suitable for the trade were unchanged in price to a few cents dearer to average 408c/kg. Trade heifers sold to stronger competition benefited by robust demand from a couple of major domestic processors.
The stronger demand lifted prices by 11c, making from 380c to 412c/kg. Prices for secondary feeder steers gained momentum on the back of rain and tight supplies. Steers 400-500kg averaged 405c/kg. Feeder heifers lifted in price by 3c to average 390c/kg. Prices for C3 steers and bullocks ranged from 344c to 414c/kg. Heavy grown heifers were well supplied, and a major domestic processor keenly contested the younger portion. The bulk selling from 340c to 407c/kg. In the cow market not all processors operated fully. Heavy weight well finished cows sold from 292c to 308c/kg.
The bulk of the lean condition cows sold from 255c to 294c/kg.
