Competition was fierce for all 157 bulls offered by Rennylea at their 2020 spring on-property sale on Thursday, the Culcairn stud achieving a colossal average of $12,509.

Stud co-principal Ruth Corrigan said it was a new record average for the stud.
"We're overwhelmed by the result, it was very good sale," Ms Corrigan said.
The top price of $30,000 was paid by repeat clients McRae Pastoral Company, Alexandra, Victoria for Rennylea Q1027.
The 12-month-old bull had the highest marbling in the catalogue, with an intramuscular fat percentage of +5.7, putting him in the top one per cent of the breed.
His Angus Breeding Index (+160) and Heavy Grain indicies (+201) were also in the top one per cent.
The sale-topper was by Rennylea L467, a full brother of Rennylea L519 and Rennylea 508, and out of a Rennylea H708 daughter.
"We kept L467 and have used him a fair bit, he's probably a heavier muscled, more moderate framed bull than his two brothers," Ms Corrigan said.
The second-highest top price was $28,000, paid by Ashwood Park, Brunswick, Vic for Rennylea Q292, a son of Rennylea G420.
Ms Corrigan said the 18-month-year-old was her pick of the draft and had some prestigious genetics behind him.
"G420 is a bull that we've sold around 10,000 straws of commercial semen out of, he's a proven calving ease, low birth weight bull going back to Te Mania Berkley B1," she said.
He was in the top one per cent for Angus Breeding Index (+163), Heavy Grain (+191) Grass indicies (+148).
Another feature of the sale was Lot 21, Rennylea P1415, whose proceeds were donated to not-for-profit, Our Watch, in memory of Alexandra Tapp.
P1415 sold to Glen Alvie Angus, Leongatha, Vic for $15,000 and Paull and Scollard Nutrien Albury also donated another $5000 to the charity, which aims to prevent violence against women and children.
McRae Pastoral Company was not only the top-buyer of the sale, but also came in as the volume buyer, purchasing eight bulls in total.
Ashwood Park, Brunswick was once again just behind them, taking home seven bulls on the day.
The sale was interfaced by AuctionsPlus and conducted by Paull and Scollard Nutrien Albury with with Andrew Wishart and Peter Godbolt taking turns with the hammer.
