According to Meat and Livestock Australia's National Livestock Reporting Service lamb numbers lifted slightly and contained 4500 new season lambs.
There were a few store lambs but the main run consisted of trade and heavy lambs with a few extra heavy weights. Merino numbers lifted slightly and the quality and weight varied. All the usual buyers were operating in a dearer market.
New season medium and heavy trade lambs up to 22kg were firm and ranged from $145 to $159/head averaging 700c/kg cwt.
Heavier weight 22 to 24kg were up $4 and sold from $158 to $168/head or 680c/kg cwt on average. Heavy lambs saw the biggest jump gaining $7 to $9 and sold from $160 to $174 and extra heavy lambs made from $173 to a top of $229/head.
Old heavy lambs sold $4 dearer to make from $160 to $172/head for lambs up to 26kg. Extra heavy lambs sold from $174 to $230 with a range of 580c to 630c/kg cwt.
Merino trade lambs made from $139 to $162 and heavy weights reached $187/head to average 650c to 670c/kg cwt.
Mutton numbers eased and there were more ewes than wethers. Quality was mixed but light weights were in short supply causing prices to be $5 to $6 dearer. Medium weight ewes sold from $122 to $150/head.
Heavy crossbred ewes made from $176 to $181 and Merinos reached $174/head. Carcase prices ranged from 640c for the medium weights, to 520c to 560c/kg cwt for the heavy and extra heavy weights.
