The top price of $30,000 was paid by Alan Beckett, Balmoral Park Angus, Yea, Victoria, for Rennylea Q1292 but it was the impressive $12,537 average that was most pleasing, up from $9226 last year.

Mr Beckett was a return client and was impressed by the upstanding outlook of his new sire which was backed by a substantial set of estimated breeding values.

Aged 18 months and a son of Rennylea M816, the bull weighed 694kg and sat in the top one per cent for scrotal size, eye muscle area and all indices.

"I liked his genetics and he is a sensational looking bull," Mr Beckett said.

"I was after a heifer bull and this one ticks all the boxes with his smooth shoulders and balanced outlook."

On the family property at Yea, Mr Beckett aims to turn off steers direct to feedlots.

Other buyers of 18-month-old bulls included AL and CJ White, Mudgee who paid $21,000 for their selection Rennylea Q858, D McRae, Molesworth, Victoria who purchased a new sire Rennylea Q1255 for $22,000 and K and C Podmore, Wagga Wagga who paid $20,000 for Rennylea Q871.

In the yearling draft sons of Sydgen Enhance were sought after when Dunoon Angus, Holbrook, took home Rennylea R10 for $24,000, while Glendaruel Pstoral Co, Holbrook paid $20,000 for Rennylea R22.

The bull weighed 497kg and was in the top one per cent the Domestic Index, top five per cent for 200 and 400 day growth, Angus breeding Index, Heavy Grain Index and Heavy Grass Index.

Rennylea stud co-principal Bryan Corrigan said the result confirmed the industry need for quality bulls with carcase attributes.

"It was a very good sale," he said. "It is obviously an optimistic time for the beef industry and support today reflects that confidence. There was great interest in the yearling bulls."

Interfaced with Auctions Plus, the sale was settled by Nutrien, Holbrook, with auctioneers Andrew Wishart and Peter Godbolt sharing the rostrum.
