An Angus top price of $50,000, Shorthorn sires making $24,000 twice and a Shorthorn cow being knocked down for $20,000 were the features of an outstanding bull sale for Gerald and Lynden Spry of Wagga Wagga on Tuesday.

The top priced Angus bull, Sprys-W Overdrive Q5733, a 21-month old son of GAR Drive, was purchased by the Bull Oak Well Angus, Pinnaroo, South Australia.
Stud principal Heath Nickolls said their new sire came highly recommended by Gerald Spry and they were not disappointed after they had made the 700km trip to see him.
"He is a complete outcross for us," Mr Nickolls said.
"He has eye appeal and great productive capacity - and being out of Wattletop Barunah gives us access to genetics which we know have been performing well."
Mr Spry told the crowd he thought Sprys-W Overdrive Q5733, weighing 962kg and with a scrotal measurement of 44cm, was the best bull he had ever bred.
Top price in the Shorthorn offering was $24,000 paid for two bulls - Outback Sprys Buddy Q283 purchased by Eloora Shorhorns, Bulart, Victoria and Sprys Boom Time Q120 bought by Wangolina Pty Ltd, Kingston, SA.
Eloora Shorthorns co-principal Dion Brooks said their new sire appealed for his balanced Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) which included calving ease (13.0) and birthweight (2.1) complimenting his great conformation.
"We saw the dam and were very impressed with her quality," Mr Brooks said.
"The bull moves well and we have seen enough in his sire's progeny to know he will fit well with our stud."
The 23-month-old son of Sprys Boom Time M222 758kg had a scrotal measurement of 38cm. The other top-priced Shorthorn bull, Sprys Boom Time Q120, weighed 804kg and had a scrotal measurement of 37cm and was included in the draft of four bulls which averaged buyers Wangolina Pty Ltd, Kingston, SA, $17,000.
Other volume bull buyers included Buckinbong Station, Narrandera who selected a draft of four to average $6000, Billakalina Pastoral Co, Port Augusta, SA who bought four to average $10,750 and HA and JM Watkin, Hillston who bought three bulls to average $10,000.
Single purchases included Sprys Emperor Q116, a Shorthorn son of Yamburgan Emperor L63 bought by Marrington Pastoral, Narromine, for $18,000, Angus bull Sprys-W Capitalist Q583 bought by Trio Angus, Cassilis for $14,000 and Sillwood Pastoral, Carrick, Tasmania who paid $16,000 for Shorthorn bull, Sprys Emperor Q114.
In the female offering, top price at $20,000 was paid by A and J Morris, Young for Sprys Patents Cherry J90, a rising eight-year-old daughter of Sprys Patent G60 with a bull calf by Outback Sprys Genesis K274.
They also paid $9000 for Sprys Outback Winchesters Judith K511, a six-year-old daughter of Eloora Winchester E17 and in calf to Sprys Heritage P73.
R and J Johnstone, Lyndhurst, purchased the two frozen embryos from Sprys Aces Primrose K45 impregnated by JSF Times Square 120G ET for $2750.
Six semen straws of Shorthorn bull Sprys Thermal Energy were bought by PA and RM Loane, Latrobe, Tasmania for $300 each and the 12 straws semen package was bought through AuctionsPlus for $280 per straw.
Elders Wagga Wagga settled the sale while Paul Dooley was auctioneer.
