Price outcomes in the trade market were dearer with buyers competing strongly against feedlots to acquire steers.
A single pen of European cross steers recorded a top price of 519c, to average 499c/kg.
Trade heifers sold to stronger demand gaining 13c to average 451c/kg. Light weight secondary steers weighing 200 to 280kg sold to a top price of 644c/kg, averaging $1497/head.
The heifer portion picked up 25c to average 516c/kg. Quality and weight were a feature in the steer run with well-bred steers not dropping below 500c/kg. Prices for 400 to 500kg feeder steers topped at 518c to average a lift of 20c/kg.
Lighter weight feeder heifers gained 15c, making from 444c to 506c/kg. Heavy steers gained 58c with feedlots, exporters and domestic processors all wanting a market share.
Heavy steers suitable for slaughter topped at 480c to average 446c/kg. Bullocks jumped 24c making from 380c to 430c, while heavy heifers continued their impressive price run making from 350c to 436c/kg.
Not all processors operated in the cow market. Heavy, well-finished cows gained 23c, averaging 342c/kg. Leaner cows were in short supply and the better types sold from 300c to 322c/kg. PTIC cows sold to a top price of 480c/kg.
