A new record was set for Griffith sheep and lamb sale on Friday with prices soaring across the extra heavy lamb category reaching a staggering $349/head.

Meat and Livestock Australia market reporter, Caroline Ronald said vendors offered more than 4000 additional sheep and lambs with predominantly heavy weights making up the yarding.
Some excellent quality was available across the heavy export types with all the regular buyers in attendance and operating. The market was $5 to $10/head dearer.
Limited trade weight lambs were available with gains between $5 and $10/head.
Medium and heavy weights sold from $219 to $245/head to average between 920c and 930c/kg cwt. Domestic processors paid up to $260/head for heavy lambs weighing 25 to 26kg.
Export processors rallied on the outstanding offering of extra heavy weight lambs. Lambs from 26 to 30kg sold from $240 to $305 with the highlight of the sale being lambs weighing in excess of 30kg, selling up to $349 and jumping $10/head.
A very small offering of light lambs selling to processors made from $148 to $168/head. A good offering of
Merino lambs sold to stronger trends with extra heavy weights reaching $300/head to make approximately 875c/kg cwt.
Mutton prices were $5 to $10 stronger with heavy weight Merino ewes selling from $200 to $250/head. A small pen of heavy Merino wethers reached $270/head. Medium weight sheep sold from $140 to $160/head.
