Meat and Livestock Australia market reporter, Leann Dax said the usual contingent of domestic and feedlot buyers was operating along with some restocker competition.

In the trade market, steers suitable for the trade were limited and domestic buyers were continually the under bidders, with trade steers averaging 489c/kg. Trade heifers were also in short supply making from 432c to 490c/kg.

Steers returning to the paddock that weighed 330 to 400kg, gained 6c recording a top of 554c/kg. Bidding for medium weight feeder steers was strong with buyers paying a premium for certain breeds. The well-bred portion sold from 455c to 520c/kg.

Feeder heifers weighing 330 to 400kg slipped 10c which was quality related to average 487c/kg. Medium weight feeder heifers were keenly contested gaining 23c to average 470c/kg.

Heavy steer and bullock quality was outstanding and vendors were rewarded with a significant price lift. Prices for C3 steers surged 27c to average 445c/kg.

Heavy steers to feed on jumped 22c averaging 472c/kg. Heavy Bullocks ignited the bidding with export buyers and feedlots all competing on younger stock. Bullocks weighing 618kg sold to a top price of 442c/kg. In the cow market not, all processors operated. Heavy well-finished cows sold to strong southern competition improving 11c to average 350c/kg.
