Building upon their success in the 2021 NSW Beed Spectacular Trial, the Hicks' family, had a total clearance of 54 Australian Beef Composite bulls and 15/17 Red Angus bulls during the spring Hicks Beef bull sale at Holbrook, today.

Sale results summary:-
- 36/36 Black Composite bulls - top $23,000, av $15,000 (up from $10,531 in March)
- 18/18 Red Composite bulls - top $18,000, av $12,111 (up from $8437 in March)
- 17/17 Red Angus bulls - top $26,000, av $11,800 (up from $6500 in March)
The top price at $26,000 was paid for a Red Angus bull, Hicks Henry Q28, a two-year son of Hicks Henry M55 when bought through AuctionsPlus.
Top price in the Black Composite offering was $23,000 paid by longterm client Craig Shultz, Culcairn, for ABC Q1007, a two-year son of ABC N845, in turn sired by GAR Prophet.
Mr Schultz said he will AI 200 females to his new sire, followed by a natural joining to 50 specially selected females.
"Every year we look for the best Composite bull here," he said.
"I liked his figures - calving ease, high marbling and he is one of the highest All Purpose Index (API) bulls in the catalogue.
"He is also perfectly structured with good balance and depth of body."
Mr Schultz has recently sold a draft of Black Composite steers, 13-months old, grass-fed and weighing 618kg for $3200.
This year was the first time yearling bulls were offered for sale, and the top price at $23,000 was paid for ABC R839, a son of Gibbs 3133A Mountaineer when bought through AuctionsPlus.
Speaking after the sale, co-principal Tom Hicks was 'extremely happy with the result.'
"It was great to see the top lots aligned with the top prices," he said.
"It is a great time to be in the beef industry, and with everything lining up for a fantastic spring, I think buyers of quality beef genetics will be fully rewarded."
The auction was settled by Elders, Albury, while Elders auctioneer Brett Shea drew the bids which came with some confidence from both the sale barn and through AuctionsPlus.
