The top price achieved was $4000 while the average price was $2136: this was a record for both the top price and average for the Armdale stud.

Kevin Bradford, Hurlsdone Pastoral, Harden, purchased the top priced ram to join with selected ewes in his Poll Dorset stud.

Mr Bradford sells a selection of rams each year as well as breeding enough rams to join to his flock of first-cross ewes.

"I like the ram's breeding which goes back to a Springwaters Poll Dorset ram and that ram has bred exceptionally well," he said.

"The ram I bought is a very good type, he stands well, with a long body and great topline."

Mr Bradford also acknowledged the ram's figures of 107kg, 7 Fat and 40.45mm eye muscle area.

"He is the complete package for me," he said.

The feature of the sale was the number of buyers who put together sizable drafts of young rams.

They included ATW Pastoral Pty Ltd, Tumbarumba, who bought five rams for $2080 average price: Newman Pastoral Co, Bowna, who selected a draft of 15 rams for $2473 average and Carwoola Pastoral Co, Rye Park, who took seven new sires home for $1714 average price.

The Marrar district has long been renowned for the quality of the prime lambs grown, and local buyers included Don Dyce, Coolamon, who added six rams to his sire battery for average price of $2133: Killarney Company, Marrar, who selected three rams for $2667 and SO and DE Pike, Temora, who paid average price of $2260 for his selection of five rams.

Reflecting on the sale, stud manager Sam Mooney said the results were great.

"The sheep genetics spoke for themselves and there was strong bidding all the way through the sale," he said when appreciating the wonderful support.

The auction was conducted by Elders and Nutrien, Wagga Wagga, with Steve Ridley and Peter Cabot sharing the rostrum.
