After the disappointment of the initial cancellation of this event students were offered the opportunity to participate in an online competition.

The event is aimed at school students interested in sheep management and the online Handlers Competition allowed students to showcase their skills in leading sheep, explain the breeding lines and how the stock have been cared for.

Isabelle can be found down at the sheep yards each lunchtime caring for the ewes.

She is passionate about working with sheep and is a keen member of the College Sheep Team.

"I have my own sheep at home that I train and halter break for shows. I was planning on taking two of mine to the Ganmain Show this year but it was cancelled," she said.

"I really enjoy working with the animals, so the competitions run through the College are great fun and I get to learn lots too," she said.

"I am hoping to grow my knowledge of sheep management and events like the QRL Rural Youth Expo are great for this. Hopefully it will go ahead in 2022." said Isabelle.

The QPL Rural Youth Expo is in it's second year and the College is keen participate in the 2022 competition expanding its experience in sheep rearing and showing.

College agriculture teacher Belinda Everingham said the school was thankful QPL established a competition model which accommodated COVID restrictions.

"Our students have a growing interest in the sheep industry and for them to be able to gain experience and exposure to both working with the animals and getting feedback from industry professionals is really important," she said.

"It helps shape their futures and broadens their understanding of the possibilities there for them in the agricultural industry. We look forward to the local shows being back on the schedule and being able to support the growing interest of the younger generations," said Mrs Everingham.
