Blyth Merinos has focused on breeding plain bodied poll Merino sheep that grow high densities of very long and uniform wool fibres.
It is a different approach to increasing fleece weight. It allows the sheep to remain free of skin wrinkle and without the need to be mulesed.
This fine wool flock, located in the wet environment of Adelong, consists of 1100 stud ewes and 3000 commercial ewes.
The adult ewes produce on average 7kg of 18.9 micron wool and wean 125 per cent of lambs each year.
Blyth Merinos’ muscle and fat traits measured by Merinoselect are leaders in the Merino seed stock industry.
This enables the sheep to endure tough times and bounce back quickly, while producing wool of exceptional quality and textile worth.
